Pro-life Groups: Reproductive Rights Memo Submitted to the Obama Transition

  • Dec 13, 2008

Pro-life Groups:

The Obama transition team has posted a 55 page reproductive rights memo on its website.  The memo was submitted by over 50 pro-abortion groups and outlines detailed policy requests.

According to this blog, the public display of these detailed recommendations came as a surprise to members of the abortion industry’s lobby. What advocates were less eager to share with the public is the detailed roadmap included in the document for the changes in policy needed to improve reproductive health for women both here and abroad.  Several advocates cited concerns that the administration would be criticized as doing the bidding of reproductive health community if it made use of the specific legal reasoning outlined in the document.”

The memo outlines an agenda that will not come as a surprise, but the specificity included in the memo may be of interest to pro-life groups.  In the memo you will find text for Executive Orders and Presidential Memorandums, legislative language changes, new regulatory initiatives, and a list of judicial vacancies.

In addition to posting the memo, the public is invited to comment on the memo.  Comments can be posted here on the transition website.
