Barack Hussein Obama is President. Now What?
Barack Hussein Obama is now the 44th President of the United States of America.
I watched with great interest as he was sworn into office. The crowd, the atmosphere and setting were awe-inspiring.
Having lived in the era of separate but equal schools and separate water fountains for blacks and whites, I was touched by the scene. I attended segregated schools through the ninth grade and was in the first integrated graduating class at Galena Park High School in southeast Houston. And today, 40 years later America has its first African American as President. This speaks well of our country.
Barack Obama’s speech was equal to the setting. He has few equals when it comes to oratorical skills. But as I sat and pondered it all including the near god like status that many in the media and culture are bestowing on this man, I remembered King Saul in the Scripture. Just in our day, the people demanded a new leader, offending the God who had orchestrated their release from slavery after years of cruel subjection at the hands of the Egyptians, and finally they got their King.
Saul was tall and strikingly handsome, and he came so full of promise. But by the time he marched off the scene, the nation was nearly destroyed. The Scripture says of Saul, “God granted them their request, (for a King), but sent leanness to their souls.” I fear the same may be said of America, for you see, evil is colorblind.
Christians, our first responsibility regarding Barack Obama’s presidency is found in II Chronicles 7:14. We must humble ourselves and pray. The New Testament reminds us to pray for all those in authority and especially the President. We must pray earnestly and fervently.
Then we must act. James 2: 20 reminds us that faith and action go together. In fact, James tells us that faith, without action, is dead.
President Obama has announced his intentions for his first days in office. He has plans for the Global Gag Rule, a program established during the Reagan years that prohibited countries from using US funds for abortions. According to Lifenews.com and other sources Obama plans to overturn this law immediately.
He has intentions to make abortions easier to obtain. He has promised to introduce the Freedom of Choice Act (visit http://www.aul.org/foca for more information) as his first legislative priority. If the President signs this into law our tax dollars will be used for abortions on demand for any reason at any time throughout pregnancy paid for by the government and parents will not be allowed to interfere. It contains provisions to overturn every law that limits abortions in any fashion across America.
And he has promised to appropriate taxpayer funds to further embryonic stem cell research. The effect of this law is to harvest unborn body parts for science. And this is just the start. In coming issues of the Rick Scarborough Report, we will reveal his planned attacks on free speech and freedom of religion.
WE CAN effect great change through prayer as promised in James 5:16. As the new President commences to implement his vision of change, we must remember that the first place to enter the battle is through prayer. We must seek HIS kingdom first. (Matt. 6:33)
Having done that it is our responsibility as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, to make sure our elected officials hear us. To speak to your representative please call 202-225-3121 or 877-851-6437. The new and Congress, led by San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi, will be working to advance a liberal agenda every step of the way. We must pray and work to see that they are not successful.
As the people of God, we must never forget: “Greater is He that is in us than He that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). If we do the work first on our knees followed by the work necessary on our feet, perhaps God will be merciful and spare our country from the tragic consequences of the judgment we deserve.

The Freedom of Choice Act; Barack Obama’s First Priority
In 2007, Barack Obama stood before the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and promised that the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) would be the first piece of legislation he would sign and in doing so it would “transform this nation.” On Tuesday he stood before millions of Americans as he was sworn into office as the 44th President of the United States. On Wednesday, I assume he will begin the process of keeping his promise to Planned Parenthood, the leading abortion provider in the world.
My friends, there are not enough words to convey the seriousness of this piece of legislation. Now is not the time to bury our heads in the sand and hope this will go away. It won’t. If we don’t do something about it, the basic fundamental right to be born will be taken from millions of unborn children, ironically, in the name of “freedom.”
There are over 550 federal, state and local laws that FOCA will nullify the moment that President Obama signs it into law. Americans United for Life has compiled a list of some of those laws that pro-life activists and legislators have worked vigilantly to pass since Roe v. Wade was mandated upon the land by the Supreme Court on January 22, 1973. These laws will suddenly be eradicated in one fatal piece of legislation.
Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003
· Hyde Amendment (restricting taxpayer funding of abortions)
· Restrictions on abortions performed at military hospitals
· Restrictions on insurance coverage for abortion for federal employees
· Informed consent laws
· Waiting periods
· Parental consent and notification laws
· Health and safety regulations for abortion clinics
· Requirements that licensed physicians perform abortions
· “Delayed enforcement” laws (banning abortion when Roe v. Wade is overturned and/or the authority to restrict abortion is returned to the states)
· Bans on partial-birth abortion
· Bans on abortion after viability. FOCA’s apparent attempt to limit post-viability abortions is illusory. Under FOCA, post-viability abortions are expressly permitted to protect the woman’s “health.” Within the context of abortion, “health” has been interpreted so broadly that FOCA would not actually proscribe any abortion before or after viability.
· Limits on public funding for elective abortions (thus, making American taxpayers fund a procedure that many find morally objectionable)
· Limits on the use of public facilities (such has public hospitals and medical schools at state universities) for abortions
· State and federal legal protections for individual healthcare providers who decline to participate in abortions
· Legal protections for Catholic and other religiously-affiliated hospitals who, while providing care to millions of poor and uninsured Americans, refuse to allow abortions within their facilities
President Obama has the will and the votes in Congress to keep his campaign promise to pass this ghastly legislation. What we must do is make its passage so painful that he decides that other more pressing issues, like saving the American economy, makes this a back burner issue.
There are enough Christians in America to do that if you and I will mobilize every likeminded friend and fellow Christian we know to rise up and say NO to this bill. Please assist me in stopping this all out assault on innocent unborn life in America.

On his last full day in office President Bush decided to listen to those who were protesting and commute the sentences of former Border Patrol guards Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean. The two had been serving 11 and 12 year sentences for non-fatally shooting a drug runner who was fleeing at the Mexico border.
Vision America wants to commend President Bush for commuting the sentences of these two, as they were obviously just doing their job to protect our nation from those who intend to bring harm to it. Many believe justice was not served when they were convicted and it only served to cause other officers to be afraid to administer justice without the fear of prosecution themselves.
Although I’m glad President Bush saw fit to commute Ramos’ and Compean’s sentences, I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that the best scenario would have been complete pardons, as they will be released from prison in March but will be convicted felons for life. They won’t be able to vote, return to law enforcement and will still endure other losses of freedom associated with such a conviction.
